Masked agents of Pakistan's intelligence agency arrest Jamil Qasim Saeed Mohammed, a Yemeni microbiology student, at the request of US authorities. Jamil, wanted for his suspected involvement in the bombing of the USS Cole, is then flown from Pakistan to Jordan on a US-registered Gulfstream jet. “The hand-over of the shackled and blindfolded student ... occurred in the middle of the night at a remote corner of the airport without extradition or deportation procedures,” The Washington Post will later report. [Associated Press, 10/28/2001; St. Petersburg Times, 10/28/2001; The Washington Post, 3/11/2002; Amnesty International, 6/20/2002] In September 2003, Amnesty International will report that US authorities have still provided no information about the Yemeni student.
