November 3, 2002      Torture in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere

       In Yemen, a CIA-operated Predator drone fires a hellfire missile at a car, killing all six occupants. The CIA's target is Qaed Salim Sinan al-Harethi, al-Qaeda's chief operative in Yemen. The others are allegedly low-level al-Qaeda operatives, one of whom is Ahmed Hijazi, an American citizen. [New York Times, 11/8/2002] Another is Kamal Derwish, a suspected recruiter whom lawyers of the Lackawanna Six were hoping to question. Derwish supposedly recruited one of their clients.
