October 2001      Torture in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere

       In October 2001, six men are arrested in Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH) on suspicion of involvement with terrorism: Bansayah Belkacem, Hadj Boudellaa, Lakhdar Boumediene, Mustafa Ait Idir, Mohamed Nechle and Lahmar Saber. All of them are suspected of planning to bomb the American and British embassies in Sarajevo, except one his is arrested after US intelligence claims he made a phone call to a senior aide of Osama bin Laden. Five of the six are naturalized Bosnians, but in November, during their detention, they are stripped of their citizenship by the BiH government.
